Position Summary:
This position will provide technical and professional services of company products to the Business Development/Sales team. This will include but not limited to execution of sales and marketing functions as directed, technical sales quotation & proposal writing, working with operations to coordinate customer orders, trade show execution, trips/visits on site customer interaction, associated reporting and overall customer service requirements to assist in order fulfillment, and to prepare and execute submittals and product installations as required. The purpose of this position is also to assist in the development and optimization of internal logistics systems and provide technical assistance and support necessary to move product orders and related information through our sales and delivery process. The position is expected to become technically competent in various customer segments requirements as they relate to our product and service offering.
This will include training and development to become proficient including but not limited to, advanced level RFQs, trade shows, submittals, installations and customer visits within Business Development. Routine travel averaging and up to and over 50% will be expected.

Requirements
Business Development
1. Providing technical and engineering support to customers and other sales team members as required by executing proposals and prepares in forecasting and market analysis as required. Executes maintenance of sales and marketing measures.
2. Execution of advanced level Request for Quotes (RFQs) and as required and directed with process documentation, control, and optimization of RFQ process to ensure consistency ad appropriate representation of operational capabilities including resource capabilities.
3. Prepares for in accordance to standards and executes trade shows and customer/engineering visits and other sales and marketing functions as required. Executes trips to various customer locations and executes multiple customer visits as directed. Completes required pre and post documentation on a timely basis.
4. Follows up to request for quotes (RFQs) including inside sales functions as required, including but not limited to routine, professional, and efficient use of the phone. Executes unit cost and product cost analysis in support of work order summarization for use in future proposal writing. Maintains information as directed and makes all contact and related information with respect to all Red Flint group customers, customer segments, and markets available to the sales department. Trains and assist others in the development of quotes.
5. Meets with customers and prospects to ensure understanding of their particular needs in order to deliver products/services to their expectations, or better.
6. Executes follow up phone calls, emails, and visits to customers to solicit business, follow up on proposals, follow up on trade show contacts, and other general status. Call volume meets or exceeds targets. With the objective of obtaining profitable purchase orders.
7. Determines project planning and plans of action to land purchase orders.
8. Follows all required documentation requirements in a professional manner. Completes all documentation work on time and at least to standard.
9. Supports strategic objectives of the company to ensure optimal and profitable operations.
10. Assists with annual planning requirements in line with strategic goals and coordination including the establishment of annual pricing. Assists with the direction of the team’s efforts in pursuit of initiatives and activities required for obtaining goals and profitable operations.
11. Executes trips, visits and follow up activities as assigned to obtain P.O. including at customer locations.
12. Executes profitable purchase of other materials as required to fill project requirements and/or assists other personnel with same.
13. Executes installations, submittal paper work, and general follow through with order fulfillment tasks. Also executes scheduling activity worksheets for communications with productions.
14. Rigorously follows pricing and quoting protocol. Insures purchase orders are aligned with quotes and communicates effectively with internal and external parties to effectively execute project requires.
15. Maintains required level of technical expertise and understanding of all customer segments and executes al business development requirements for each.
16. Becomes competent to standard in all compliance, certification and specification aspects of NSF, AWWA, and other standards and specifications for industry segments that might apply.
17. Other duties as assigned.
Site Related Support/Logistics
18. Learns, understands, and complies with applicable plant safety rules and regulations at all times. Holds self and others accountable for safe operations, wears required PPE, executes and participates in regular MSHA and safety training/testing.
19. Provides technical and engineering support to portable plant manager with production scheduling and order status.
20. May utilize order entry system for local, domestic and international order fulfillment according to established procedures – from entry of quotes to daily orders/charge tickets, release and shipment of products. Keeps system up to date with various related information, as scheduled and as needed.
21. Corresponds with customers on their order questions and changes – phone, email, internet, etc. Professionally addresses and resolves problems/complaints within scope of responsibility, documents correspondence and results.
22. Prepares detailed documentation for international orders – customs, etc. Tracks these orders once shipped to ensure they are delivered as planned. Updates export shipment spreadsheets. Communicates with freight vendors and customers as needed to expedite or problem solve export orders; With respect to business development work and not pure order entry.
23. Learns, understands, and communicates product/media, packaging, inventory, shipping, industry standards, production, and scheduling.
24. Learns, understands, and executes various sales functions to create opportunity for offering and closing proposals. Including but not limited to effective follow up through phone, in person and email, effective documentation of customer interactions at tradeshows, in person, on phone, or on email; technical and sales training modules and content there in; and other professional development as might be required by sales management.
25. Files correspondence, reports, and other materials. May file confidential data.
Work Relationships:
Reports to VP of Business Development and Sales Manager. Works closely with senior management, production, order logistics, and accounting, and frequently with other employees in the office. Regular, daily contact with customers and vendors, by phone, e-mail, and in person is required.
Performance Expectations and Competencies:
Work performed is expected to meet or exceed guidelines for safety, quality, accuracy, timeliness and thoroughness. Must be reliable and timely in reporting to work. Competencies include the ability to: think and work safely, interact professionally with external contacts (customers, freight vendors, drivers, etc.), accurately troubleshoot and resolve order and logistics problems, gain the trust and respect of co-workers and management, communicate effectively and develop good working relationships with others, conduct self with honesty and integrity, take initiative to notice what needs to be done and the good judgment to act appropriately.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related technical area. Industrial, Chemical, Materials, Civil, and Mining Engineers and technical business degrees preferred. Other engineering technical business, and technical disciplines will be considered. Actual corporate level will be assessed based on experience, education, and familiarity with industry segments (Whether Junior Associate, Associate, or Senior Associate). Candidates’ knowledge, skills and knowledge gaps to standard will be trained to results expectation internally at Red Flint’s offices in Eau Claire.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with computerized order processing and accounting systems, or production scheduling and/or maintenance and repair systems (prefer Great Plains experience), preferred.
Proven business development experience is a plus. Asphalt, ready mix, crushing, screening, dry aggregate processing, packaging or washing experience may also apply if applicant is/was involved vertically to mining and/or aggregate processing. Must Learn and understand and respect MSHA and OSHA regulations, understand the geology of mine sites, and understand the basics regarding use and configuration of mining equipment (fixed and mobile).
Experience in order processing/logistics, freight or production scheduling, and/or customer service, utilizing a sophisticated computer system preferred.
Required valid driver’s license and insurability, and ability to travel by air to other locations.
Expected Schedule:
Works mostly during regular office hours on weekdays. However, due to the nature of the position, being at work during these hours is critical as others depend on this position. May be required to work evening hours and occasional weekends. Travel will be frequent based on business needs. 50 hours per week is the expected requirement for Business Development team members.
